Automation of Sound Level Predictions Internship

About the role

Join Damen’s RD&I Sound & Vibrations team to develop an automated method for analysing sea‑trial acoustic data. You will create a tool that identifies and characterises acoustic sources from time‑domain recordings, supporting faster noise analysis and design validation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a methodology and prototype application (Python/MATLAB) to classify acoustic sources in sea‑trial recordings.
• Define source‑specific outputs such as RPM, number of blades or cylinders.
• Perform source separation and quantify each source’s contribution (level, spectrum, metrics).
• Document the solution and evaluate its performance using real Damen sea‑trial data.

Required profile

• Master‑level student in Naval Architecture, Maritime Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Applied Physics.
• Strong analytical mindset with affinity for acoustics, spectrograms and harmonic analysis.
• Familiarity with signal‑processing and machine‑learning frameworks.
• Good written and spoken English.
