Deputy Registrar – International Court

About the role

The International Court of Justice seeks a Deputy Registrar to support the Registrar and act on their behalf when required. This senior position involves overseeing administrative, diplomatic and judicial functions of the Registry in The Hague.

Key responsibilities

• Administrative duties: manage internal administration, supervise Registry departments and oversee specific projects delegated by the Registrar.
• Diplomatic duties: handle the Court’s external relations, communicate with States, UN organs, other international organisations and the Dutch government.
• Judicial duties: manage case proceedings, coordinate receipt and transmission of applications, pleadings and official correspondence, and attend Court and chamber meetings to provide assistance and ensure proper reporting.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law or international relations, preferably with a focus on public international law.
• At least 15 years of professional experience in public international law, international dispute resolution or administration of international organisations, including senior managerial responsibilities.
• Fluency in English and French (UN Level IV); additional language such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish or Dutch is desirable.

• Competitive compensation calculated in US dollars and paid in euros, comprising a basic salary and a post‑adjustment reflecting cost of living.
