Internship: Automation of Sound Level Predictions

About the role

During Damen sea trials extensive audio, acceleration and operational data are collected. This internship focuses on automating the analysis of these time‑domain recordings to identify and characterize acoustic sources.

Key responsibilities

• Create a model that classifies acoustic sources in time‑domain recordings of pressures, accelerations, etc.
• Define source‑specific outputs such as RPM, number of blades, and number of cylinders.
• Develop a prototype application using Python or MATLAB.
• Deliver documentation and evaluate the solution on real Damen sea‑trial data.

Required profile

• Master’s student in Naval Architecture, Maritime Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Applied Physics.
• Affinity with acoustics, spectrograms and harmonic analysis.
• Familiarity with signal processing and machine‑learning frameworks.
• Analytical mindset.
• Strong written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• MATLAB programming.
• Signal‑processing techniques.
• Machine‑learning frameworks.

What we offer

• Academic‑level mentoring throughout the internship.
• Internship compensation and travel allowance in line with company policy.
• A project with direct relevance to multiple business functions and future digital products.
• Potential for internal rollout and possible publication or conference contribution.
