PhD Position Quantum Torsional Resonators

About the role

You will join the Steele Lab in the Quantum Nanoscience Department at TU Delft to design, fabricate and measure nanomechanical torsional resonators coupled to superconducting qubits. The project aims to create quantum superpositions of massive objects and explore the interface between gravity and quantum mechanics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, fabricate and characterize silicon‑nitride ribbon torsional resonators in a state‑of‑the‑art cleanroom.
• Integrate resonators with superconducting quantum circuits via magnetic‑flux coupling and perform quantum control experiments.
• Collaborate with local and international experimental and theoretical groups to advance the research.
• Document results and present findings within the team and at conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in physics, or a PhD in electrical/mechanical engineering with strong motivation and experience in quantum mechanics or nanomechanics.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, interdisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Nanofabrication techniques for quantum devices.
• Experience with superconducting qubits and quantum measurements.
• Understanding of magnetic‑flux coupling and torsional resonator physics.
