Senior Software Engineer – Platform SRE

About the role

Every engineer at Flexport ships code that moves real freight across 112 countries. The Platform, Security & Infrastructure (PSI) team builds and operates the core infrastructure that powers our products. This role is proactive – you’ll identify risks before they become incidents and work with engineering and security teams to make our systems more resilient, observable, efficient, secure, and easier to operate.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate reliable, scalable infrastructure on AWS and other cloud platforms.
• Contribute to container orchestration (Kubernetes), Helm charts, and deployment systems (Argo) while establishing guardrails for safe deployments.
• Improve the observability stack (Openmetrics, Datadog) to provide clear insights into system behavior.
• Maintain and evolve Infrastructure‑as‑Code standards, primarily using Terraform.
• Support developers with CI/CD pipelines (Buildkit, GitHub Actions) and build tooling (Gradle, Bazel, npm/pnpm/bun, Go, Cargo) and manage artifact repositories (Artifactory, ECR, GitHub).
• Enhance incident response tooling and processes to handle incidents efficiently.
• Partner with product teams to ship changes that affect the broader engineering organization.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software, site reliability, or infrastructure engineering experience with production systems.
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure and hands‑on experience with AWS.
• Expertise in Infrastructure‑as‑Code, preferably Terraform, with a focus on safe, reusable patterns.
• Solid software engineering skills to build automation in a general‑purpose language.
• Experience participating in incident response and blameless post‑mortems.
• Proactive mindset, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to identify high‑leverage problems.
• Good judgment around security, IAM, networking, and change management.
• Strong communication skills for clear design and incident documentation.
